Vicky Bennett
Vicky
Bennett has created a range of work with publishing over 50 audio recordings
and 35 film projects, these projects use her own aesthetic reusing pre-existing
footage to create audio and visual collages, for example the video ‘Gesture
Piece (2013)’ is a 15-minute film which uses clips from hundreds of films which
involve a character preforming a gesture, the video also includes a unique
soundtrack being split up into seven chapters with each chapter being performed
by a different artist.
Bennett’s
other video work includes ‘The Zone’ in which the film ‘The Wizard of Oz’ and
the film ‘Stalker’ are split screened together due to their similar themes with
‘The Wizard of Oz’ being about a journey to find the wizard of Oz. Whereas ‘Stalker’
is about a journey through ‘the Zone’ to find a room which grants wishes, but
both films use a different tone such as ‘The Wizard of Oz’ being aimed at
children and using bright colours and an upbeat nature however, ‘Stalker’ is aimed
at a more mature audience using drab and muted colours to convey a darker atmosphere.
The Zone was inspired by ‘Chance
Operations’ by John Cage.
Vicky
Bennett’s work relates to my project due to that both use footage from other
films and sources and repurposes it to create something different.
